Anyone know of a coffee shop in the IE that offers free WiFi and is friendly to people spending a few hours drinking coffee and surfing. Also has anyone used the downtown Riverside WiFi in the pedestrian mall.

Tue, August 16, 2005 - 10:19 PMBack to the Grind offers free Wireless and I think but I'm not certain, the Coffee Depot does as well. If you have issues with the mixed patronage of Back to the Grind you may find the Coffee Depot more to your liking. I find Back to the Grind way friendlier and more comfortable socially than Coffee Depot but Coffee Depot has air conditioning and if you look you can find "buy one get one free" deals on both coffee and lunches. I'm not sure if the Coffee Depot store in the Riverside Plaza has WiFi or not but I'll make a point of checking it out soon and posting my findings here.
I like that the owner of Back to the Grind isn't, per my experience, hypocritical or exclusivist in their business practices or their behavior. Coffee Depot on the other hand will allow people to throw a Rave so long as it's a "Christian" rave. That is an issue I've had personally with that establishment and as a consequence find myself uncomfortable there (because I don't like forking over cash for casuses I don't agree with - namely bias and exclusion). It's all good though. The owner of the place does seem mostly decent and certainly has the whole Christian thing going for him so he should be popular here for that alone.
If you have a Macintosh computer you can download the JiWire HotSpot finder widget and always be able to find where to link before you get to whatever destination you've got.

I know it's not a coffee shop but you can also link up in the Library downtown as well as most of the public office buildings. I know for a fact that you can link at the courthouse but when I used my computer there the connection was flakey at best. I'd probably use either the library or Back to the Grind.
Hope that helps. -

Re: Free Wireless
Wed, August 17, 2005 - 8:49 AMYeah it helps, thanks. I don't mind mixed patronage at all. Hey as long as they have good coffee, I'm cool. I think I'd like the one at the Riverside Plaza,
although it's too bad we don't have a nice bookstore with free wireless. I'm really okay with almost anything free. -
