Hey does anyone here go to the first Thursday art walk in Riverside? I've been just once and liked it a lot though I didn't get to stay as long as I would have liked. Division 9 was great.

Have any favorites?

I am there frequently though not as much as of late because a friend of mine is dealing with some health issues (age related). If I'm not helping a studio out or hanging out with one of my friends down there I'll be wandering from studio to studio seeing what's there and what people are doing.

I have not favorites as of yet. Picking one would be too political for me at this point. I do like them all for different reasons though. It is certainly worth going.

What actually is the Art Walk? Location, etc?

It happens downtown on University between Market and I think Olivewood. There are several studios that open their doors. If you make it to University you'll see open studios, they should be able to give you more information about all the participants (or maybe not).

Is it a big thing and would it be okay for kids.

It is a big thing as in it's all of the studios along University and I think that kids would certainly get something out of it (even if only the free munchies some of the studios put out). As a parent you may want to be with them the whole time because, as you know, some art is kid-okay and some is not. You could prescreen studios and if your children are old enough just let them know which ones they can and cannot visit (though I think that would invalidate the whole concept of quality time).

I haven't seen any artwork I wouldn't allow a child of my own to view. I don't have any kids of course but I would let me nephews see everything I've seen there as well. Some of it is abstract, some is portraiture, some is glass work, some is sculpture. Again, I think it's up to you as a parent to decide. If I were a parent I'd censor things like violence, not nudity (porn is different and not being discussed here because I haven't seen anything pornographic through my tours). All I can say is that you should check it out.

It's not as big as the thing one Wednesdays, or rather, it doesn't seem as big because people aren't in plain sight the whole time. They mill about from studio to studio.

          Hope that helps somewhat.
